In 2005, Shea-Butter-Negroes.com was added as our natural skin care resource center, and in 2006 we changed our name to the Shea Butter Center. "I became aware of shea butter and its potential benefits quite accidentally after deciding to let my hair grow. As an American of African Descent, I wanted to keep my hair in its natural state and have a healthy scalp that wasn’t bombarded with harmful chemicals on a daily or weekly basis. And, of course once you choose the natural path for your hair, whether it be dreadlocks, or a two-twist style or a mini or micro-fro, someone along the way is bound to tell you about shea butter. "I quickly learned that the shea butter oil I bought from my local 'Asian-owned' beauty supply store was not cheap, even the kind that was not 100% pure. In fact, when I asked the sales lady if she had any 100% pure, it turned out there was none to be found in the store. "So I started looking on the net—cause I’m an Internet junkie anyway—for cheaper prices, and soon found a source for unrefined pure shea butter products. I now buy it by the pound, warm up just enough for my weekly after-shampooing hair conditioning treatment and I am quite satisfied with the results. My hair now has more sheen, is softer and easier to comb and actually has a silky feel to it. From wooly to silky...I know that sounds incredible, but I'm just calling as I see it.
